Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes: It could have been a serious movie considering there are movies about Killer Condoms, Killer Sex dolls and killer toys, but it’s not. Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes is more a spoof in the vein of Naked Gun than it is a horror movie, and as such it’s more concerned with throwing gags at us than with either a coherent story or some real thrills. But you don’t really expect thrills from a movie about killing fruit, now do you?

I didn’t expect much from Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes , I knew it was going to take a light approach from some clips I saw but I didn’t realize this was going to be a spoof in which actually nothing makes real sense. There is no plot other than Tomatoes attacking people, the government trying to cover it up and some elite force of misfits trying to stop the tomatoes. But they didn’t really do all that much.

The movie throws so many gags at us some of them are bound to be hit, and to be honest, I did laugh from time to time. But there are a lot of misses which makes the movie tedious and dragging, mostly due to the fact that when a joke doesn’t work there’s no real plot to back it up. So every 10 minutes or so this movie starts to drag and then an actually funny joke pops up and gives you fuel for another 5 minutes. Due to that this the movie, though only around 80 minutes longs, jump from boring to funny over and over again and should really be trimmed.

It’s a bad low budget B-movie that actually acknowledges that fact and pokes a lot of fun at it, but only succeeds partially. It’s fun, but never hilarious and it just drags too much. The acting is standard seventies B-movie stale, the effects were made on a budget of $10 and the tomatoes look really fake and nothing like the drawing on the video covers. But would you have expected otherwise?
